SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 will take place December 12–15 at the ICC Sydney, Australia. The annual event, which rotates around the Asian region, attracts folks technically and creatively minded from all over the world interested in research, science, art, animation, gaming, interactivity, education, and emerging technologies. 

This year, several Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) members — Foundry, NVIDIA, and Pixar, will be presenting on topics ranging from OpenUSD best practices to how VFX pipelines can benefit from machine learning. Should you be attending, here are some OpenUSD-related sessions we think you might like:

Demystifying OpenUSD: End-to-end Data Pipelines and Workflows | Animal Logic, NVIDIA | Get an introduction to best practices in handling OpenUSD data, examples of how proceduralism can enable new workflows, some intermediate subjects such as materials, the expanded capabilities of Hydra 2.0, and how NVIDIA Omniverse Fabric enables runtime optimizations including GPU interoperability. The course takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 2:00 p.m. AEDT.

OpenUSD Lectures | NVIDIA | Don’t miss a wealth of learning opportunities on the fundamentals of OpenUSD, generative AI for animation, and the acceleration of 3D workflows in these lectures on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. AEDT.

How to build a better spaceship: The VFX of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 | Foundry | Listen to Wētā FX’s Sequence VFX Supervisor Jason Galeon talk about the studio’s VFX work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, including space battles, cybernetic animals, a giant talking tree, and an epic one-shot hallway fight.
